Eastern Washington, Wilbur, Harvest. The Semprimoznik shared their labour days with me while I witnessed the different actions in order to collect the grain and take the harvest to the elevators.
AFRICAN DREAM ACADEMY
I am fascinated with the poetry involved in a process. We reflect our own process in whatever we do, in the constant change of our natures that are influenced by our surroundings and circumstances. Photographers act as archeologists, constantly in search of what's behind a face or a landscape. I sometimes kill the myth. But most times I let the magic of present captivate me regardless of what I learned looking behind the scenes. (Not sure what this means exactly?)
Due to the unusual nature of my work, I have photographed empty, naked disco spaces that were closed to the public and with no music or lights. To me, it is amazing how the type of music of a disco has so much in common with the design of the space. Just by looking at the space, you can almost hear the music. However, I had never before witnessed the process of putting together a disco club from scratch. When I heard that Seattle Repertory Theatre was producing David Byrne's musical Here Lies Love, I jumped at the opportunity to record that process. And it’s been truly incredible. What I most loved about this process was the fact that everyone involved felt the absolute magic of this production – from the welder to the driver to the architect to the designer.
So, welcome to the disco! You'll listen to heart-pumping music, watch great dancers move to incredible choreography, and witness a pivotal moment in Filipino history. But the key element is that you are a part of the story. Let's dance!
Venta El Maestro is on a little-traveled road of Conil de la Frontera (Cádiz), where tourism, surf or music is allien to the people who gather there. Parishioners who frequent this bar make their living as farmers. A few work gardening in the exclusive Real Estate of Roche, which is a few meters from geographical distance but light years ahead of its inhabitants. without an appointment. Men meet there who are called, whether spoken, by name, or by his nickname; They come with a very unformal clothes weekdays or Sundays; Men who drink lined up on the bar, as if they were alone; men playing cards, sometimes lost, sometimes they win, as if there was any difference.
Venta El Maestro, men come before and after work. Surely they are moved by the same need for company as executives left in places pompously christened after work, but in La Venta no neckties or heels Sale or mobile notifications alerting tweet or matchs in Tinder are seen or heard. However, the fear of loneliness is the same as in the big city and every day leads to a just a little darker than the cities that never sleep at night.
I have lived near the Venta El Maestro for years. I know some of the men by their nicknames. For them I am "Fernando, that of the ship." The fact that I am a photographer has no interest for them. If anything, my camera ¬-like everything that comes from outside- arouses their suspicion. Day after day I went to La Ventawith the camera. It was not easy to access this redoubt of shared intimacy. La Venta is the opposite of a trendy, or a shop window. People do not go there to be seen. Do not fix, do not put the best face, does not measure his words or gestures. This authenticity is precisely its value. Accustomed to fanfares and deceptions advertising photographing environments and sophisticated -Fiestas at the Four Seasons New York, social reportage in the Hamptons ... - in the Venta El MaestroI found a very real scenario that costs call it - "stage" - a place free from aesthetic pretensions, where life unfolds without makeup or fuss.
A party is a vehicle designed to make happiness. Like any vehicle, sometimes fails. So then, the trap or cardboard, the fictional character of the smile fades and disbelief appears. Who has not felt in the middle of a party profound loneliness? Having fun at parties is a fiction that requires years of training. Organized by adults, children's parties are sophisticated vehicles for happiness. Created for children, parties immerse them violently and very occasionally, like a fish out of water, they suck in a breath of reality. The tiara then becomes plastic; the carriage, a pumpkin; the superhero mask becomes filled with plastic air. We see the magician´s trick. That suspension of disbelief which Coleridge spoke of, then crumbles. Then comes the moment of disbelief ... quickly forgotten with the arrival of the cake or the next performance.

Labour work and long hours are found in the fields of all over United States. When we buy apples in the supermarket we don´t realize the story behind it.
